On the Hunt – Interview with Cage Warriors fighter Perry Goodwin

The sport of MMA is often a mental and psychically gruelling chess match between you and your opponent. In today’s episode of Across The Pond, you will meet a shark-like fighter looking to continue his assault on the Cage Warriors Lightweight ranks. A professional since February 2014 and representing Team Fish Tank under Andrew Fisher, Perry Goodwin owns a 7-4 record in eleven career bouts consisting of five knockouts, one submission and one decision.

At Combat Challenge North East, Perry defeated Tommy Claussen. Then he knocked out Craig Clarkson at Made 4 The Cage 17. Perry submitted Jon Ferguson in the first round via guillotine choke. He defeated Michael Hogarth via TKO at Made 4 The Cage 20. Perry also defeated Harry Brereton via TKO in round one at ICE FC 16 and Mulenga Chanda respectively. At Cage Warriors 82, he defeated Ellis Hampson via TKO in round three. At Cage Warriors 88 on October 28 Perry will seek to extend his win streak to five when he battles Jack Grant in a Lightweight duel. Good luck Perry!

Interview with Perry done by Mick Kane of MMA UK-

MMAUK: You made your Cage Warriors debut against Ellis Hampson at Cage Warriors 82, You had another ko win. Did the fight go as you expected?

PG: I never know what to expect, I train to the best of my abilities and come fight night I think it showed how much work I put in. But I will say one thing, if I hit anyone I expect a KO/TKO win.

MMAUK: That’s 4 stoppages in a row you have had, is that how you like to end a fight?

PG: I love to just end fights whether it would be KO or a submission as long as it’s over before the last bell I’m happy.

MMAUK: You are due to meet Jack Grant at Cage Warriors 88, what do you know of your opponent and are you expecting a stoppage?

PG: Jack Grant is big for the division and likes to work on the ground. I think I have the power to knock anyone out and I have the Pace to make anyone quit so yes it’s likely.

MMAUK: Last year you fought in Denmark, tell us about that experience?

PG: It was fun. I was out sized. I spent half my training camp on a rig in the North Sea and had my one of my team mates Richie Bonallie in my corner as Andrew Fisher my head coach was cornering elsewhere so naturally KO’d the guy, got my check and left. It was fun.

MMAUK: You gave up a good job off shore to commit more time to MMA, has this proved beneficial?

PG: My team TFT is what’s been the biggest part of my success but yeah I believe it helped more time to spent in the gym.

MMAUK: What do you hope to achieve within MMA?

PG: Sky’s the limit.
