The Bellator Light Heavyweight Division

The UFC lightweight division has been the focus of a lot of talk recently. Conor McGregor has not defended the belt since November and there is plenty confusion around the Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov fight –  what are they fighting for?

In Bellator also, there could be similar problems, it’s light heavyweight division could be held up for most of 2018. The likes of King Mo, Chael Sonnen and even the current champion Ryan Bader are all still in the Bellator heavyweight grand prix.

If Bader wins the tournament, then that will tie him up for the whole of 2018, and leading contenders like Phil Davis, Linton Vassell and Liam McGeary could all be denied possible shots at the title.

Bellator needed to crown a new heavyweight champion, but did it have to be at the expense of its light heavyweight division?
