Cage Warriors announce Swedish debut for CW93 in Gothenburg

Cage Warriors continue to cement themselves as the driving force behind European MMA by announcing CW93 in Gothenburg, Sweden in partnership with Viaplay. The co-promotion will bring a huge night of fight action to Scandinavian sports fans on April 28th 2018 at Gothenburg’s Lisebergshallen.

Cage Warriors are making a habit of breaking into new territory. CW89 saw the biggest night of MMA in Belgium’s history staged at Antwerp’s Lotto Arena this November, and the promotion are showing no signs of halting their mission to bring their explosive MMA events to all corners of the continent.

Now, for the first time since Cage Warriors’ Copenhagen event at CW66 in 2014, the promotion is going back to Scandinavia – and there’s no shortage of reasons why CW93 looks to be one of the standout MMA events of 2018. Sweden has produced some of the biggest worldwide names in the sport such as fan-favourite Alexander Gustafsson, seasoned veteran Ilir Latifi and ex- Cage Warriors Champion Jack Hermansson. Also making waves on the European scene are Kenneth Bergh and Alexander Jacobsen, two high-level Norwegian fighters who have had stand-out performances with Cage Warriors over the last 12 months, and Denmark’s Soren Bak, who recently put the world on notice with a first round submission victory at CW88.

To top it all off, Scandinavian sports fans are notorious for bringing an unrivalled energy to spur on home competitors, keeping the night running at a non-stop pace from start to finish.

“We have massive respect for the Swedish MMA scene,” says Cage Warriors CEO Casimir Knight. “Scandinavia as a whole consistently produces some of the best fighters in the world and there is a solid combat sports infrastructure built around an excellent network of gyms. We can’t wait to work with Viaplay, a proven broadcasting powerhouse, to deliver an incredible night for Scandinavian fight fans.”

The fight card for CW93 is yet to be announced, but fans can expect fighters from all four Scandinavian countries to turn out in force for the opportunity to fight in front of a sell out crowd, and a global TV audience. With Scandinavia being such a hotbed  for MMA growth, there’s no shortage of world-class talent in the region awaiting their chance to prove themselves as Europe’s greatest.

Stian Kleppo, head of Viasat Sports Norway, is equally excited by the partnership. “We’ve been following Cage Warriors’ development of European fighters closely and are very impressed,” he commented. “This is the fastest growing sport in the world, and we’re looking forward to making it even bigger here in Scandinavia by acting as host broadcaster for Cage Warriors in Sweden.”
